History of Student Art Show
Previously the Oceana County Student Art Show was organized by the Intermediate School District (now called the Educational Service Unit). Due to budget cuts, the district determined that it could no longer manage the show.
In approximately 2011 the Pentwater Arts Council decided it would be good to fill in the gap for this project. The PAC met with the art teacher from Pentwater to organize the show. We obtained the names of all the art teachers in Oceana County including Hart, Pentwater, Shelby, Walkerville as well as private schools. We also included home schooled students. The art teachers were responsible for selecting the submissions. The submissions to this day are divided into 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional with further divisions of elementary, middle school and high school for fairness in judging.
Over the years, the show has awarded monetary prizes for the students and school art departments. The selection of these award recipients was done through a jury by professional artists and the “People’s Choice” process. All the students receive a certificate of participation and in some years a gift certificate from a local merchant.
