MELLOW YELLOW

DAVID PETROKOVITZ

David studied at the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts (now the College for Creative Studies) and worked as a studio potter for over 20 years before shifting to sculpture full-time in 1995. His work can be seen at Michigan Legacy Art Park and in public exhibits across Michigan, including Elk Rapids, Chelsea, and Royal Oak.

Originally focused on form and composition, David often left his sculptures to rust into a natural patina. More recently, he incorporates color to bring energy, tension, and definition to his work.

Growing up in Detroit sparked his fascination with industrial machines—the beauty and grace of their forms, often with a primitive edge. His sculptures reflect this influence, blending playfulness with mechanical suggestion. Using scrap and rusted metal from barns and junkyards, David combines found artifacts with fabricated forms to create sculptures that carry both mystery and purpose.
