RYAN WILLIAMS
Pentwater native Ryan William discovered his love of painting later in life, following a long and successful career in healthcare. A graduate of Northern Michigan University, he earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Ferris State University and practiced for many years as a pharmacist. During the COVID pandemic, Ryan shifted direction and opened Port View Wine Shop in Pentwater—an endeavor he often compares to his pharmacy career, just with very different inventory.
Ryan is a self-taught watercolor artist whose creative journey began when his wife started painting floral gift cards for Port View. Inspired, Ryan picked up a brush himself and found painting to be a meaningful outlet, particularly during long northern Michigan winters when the lake had yet to freeze for ice fishing.
A lifelong outdoorsman, Ryan draws heavily from the natural world. His work often highlights the quiet beauty of wildlife, with a particular focus on fish, ducks, and geese, reflecting both his love of nature and sportsmanship.
Ryan also accepts commissions, including cottage and cabin renderings, as well as human and animal portraiture. His work can be seen at Port View Wine Shop, displayed alongside his carefully curated selection of wine, beer, and fine cigars.
