DEBBIE TEREGAN
Debbie Teregan grew up in the Detroit area with an early interest in painting, though she long believed artistic ability was something you were born with, not learned. Setting that dream aside, she pursued another creative outlet—music.
Over the years, Debbie sang in several groups, including Moose and Da Sharks, a ’50s and ’60s rock-and-roll tribute band, and performed in numerous musical theatre productions. She has also been a licensed Zumba Fitness Instructor for more than 16 years. After moving to West Michigan in 2019, Debbie and her husband quickly found a sense of home in Pentwater, particularly through the Artisan Center. She continues to teach Zumba Gold in both Hart and Pentwater.
Although music remained central for many years, Debbie’s desire to paint never faded. In 2017, a group painting class sparked a creative turning point, leading her to pursue painting as a self-taught artist through online learning and personal exploration.
Her work is inspired by whimsical imagery, bright color palettes, and modern, abstract styles. While she has explored other mediums, acrylic paint remains her primary focus. Debbie’s creative journey is rooted in the belief that it is never too late to begin—and that the right time to create is always now.
